DiDsg Internship!

Currently, I am interning with Dialogue in the Dark Singapore (DiDsg) as an Operations Intern that dwells in Marketing and Booking too. There is never a dull moment at DiDsg as we always have something to learn from our participants and guides, and something exciting is always happening!

Start of Internship

Meet Batch 27!

There is a total of 8 student interns including myself, and we're a pretty tight knit bunch. From the first time we all met each other, we all became super close to one another - so much so that our supervisors become concerned about how we were going to part ways at the end of our 6 months.

Ranging in personalities, the batch can go from chaotic to even more chaotic. However, that makes each day more fun and exciting as we continuously learn from each other and our blind colleagues!

Purple Parade Props Making

Out of my entire internship thus far, I feel that Purple Parade was one of the biggest highlights!

Ngee Ann Polytechnic's contingent this year was organised and led by DiDsg. As a student intern at DiDsg, I had the opportunity to be a part of the planning committee through the publicity and design team.

Working alongside with the other student interns and volunteers (not all pictured) from our contingent, we spent around 2 weeks perfecting our props for The Purple Parade march on 29th October 2022.

Purple Parade 2022

As a result of all our hardwork, NP's contingent was nominated for the Eco-Friendly prop award. Unfortunately, we did not win the award but the experience was rewarding.

It was truly a joy to see everyone coming together to celebrate inclusivity for all regardless of disabilities, and it was nice to see the performers with disabilities enjoying themselves on stage.

Filming - DiDRecos Youtube Video

As part of the marketing team, we constantly get to ideate and curate new content for DiDsg's social media pages. In fact, the marketing interns came up with some new series that you will be able to see later on!

For DiDRecos, we recycled this content bucket from previous batches and tweaked the format so that it would be more engaging for our audience. Instead of a static Instagram post, we decided to conceptualise a Youtube video!

Filming - At First Sight Video

I would love to call this the brainchild of my internship at DiDsg but it would not be possible without the help of my fellow student interns as well as supervisors who supported and had faith in my idea.

This video concept that I came up with was inspired by The Smart Local's (TSL) "Confession Room", a series where they invite individuals to have authentic and deep conversations with one another.

Taking this idea into consideration, I wondered: "Could there be something like this but to create conversation spaces for sighted and blind individuals?", thus the idea, At First Sight, was birthed!

Purple Symphony Christmas Concert

Purple Symphony recently had a Christmas Concert where they played various medleys and arrangements of festive music.

In this picture, one of my blind colleagues, Stephanie, with the violin, was playing in the Purple Symphony!

To share more about Purple Symphony, it's a local orchestra that consists of musicians both with and without disabilities.

It was a very enjoyable experience to see the musicians perform, and to appreciate their arrangements. They had a lot of passion, excitement and dedication to each chord that they played, and it was touching to see.
